“Success is when you are able to achieve a goal, or something you strive for, and also share that with others,” says Michael Graham, Sr., owner of Graham Tool and Machine. “Sharing is very important to success.” He takes that attitude into the work environment each day, helping his employees, his customers and his suppliers succeed, while operating a growing, thriving CNC machining business.
President Michael Graham, Sr.
Michael got started in the machining industry years ago by attending Wilcox Vocational Technical High School. As he acquired experience, he took the opportunity to teach others along the way in the machine tool industry.
Michael had a chance to work as a Service Engineer and an Application Engineer, teaching in a classroom environment. He provided consulting, technical and sales support for sales staff, buyers and operators of Haas CNC machines, and proved a master at installing, repairing, and programming machines.
In September 2001, Mike took the machines he had acquired over the years, and with his experience in the machine industry, he started Graham Tool and Machine with his wife, Madonna. Using no outside funding, they managed to build a shop that soon outgrew its modest beginnings.
"Companies found that they could pay a flat rate to have us make their parts rather than having to buy the machines and do it themselves," Mike says. "Or they could cut back on their costs by having us make the parts. Now they save on labor, benefits and workers comp. Not to mention the difficulties companies have these days even finding skilled talent in the first place. This way, we alleviate a lot of their headaches for them."
Special expertise Mike excels at process engineering and fixturing, and also shines at creating new parts and processes. His programming skills include using CAD/CAM systems such as BobCAD/CAM, topsolids and in the past using Master Cam, surfcam, gibbs, and cadkey, plus many interactive CNC controllers.
Mike’s experience includes time at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, GM Division New Departure Hyatt, Drill-Rite Carbide Tool, Trident Machine Tools in Bloomfield, and Eastern Plastics in Bristol.
Vice President Eric Graham Mike is joined in the business by his son Eric, Vice President and senior lathe technician. Eric is a Marine veteran and graduate of Wolcott High School. Eric helped start Graham Tool and Machine back in 2002, and currently runs the lathe department. Eric can answer all your turning questions!
